새롭고 낮선 환경에 적응하기 위해 치열하게 노력하는 한편 그동안 가지지 못했던 생각의 여유를 즐기던 시기가 있었다. 당시 가까운 곳에 위치한 해안가에는 가파르게 깎인 지층의 형상이 장엄한 광경을 연출하였다. 그 앞에 선 나는 자연스레 나의 지난 시간을 되돌아보게 되었으며, 그 시간의 겹이 쌓여 만들어진 아름다운 광경에 깊은 인상을 받게 되었다. 인간은 본능적으로 ‘시간의 깊이’에 반응하는 것은 아닐까? 그와 같은 가정을 기반으로 수행한 조형적 실험은 많은 가능성으로 다가왔으며, 현재도 다양한 시도를 통해 새로운 물성을 찾아가고 있다

There once was a time when I tried desperately to adapt to a strange, new environment, when, on the other hand, I had the luxury of enjoying time to think in leisure, which I could not afford previously. The waterfront nearby the house where I lived at the time was lined by precipitous cliffs that created awe-inspiring scenery. It naturally made me reflect on my past. I was deeply moved by the beautiful scenery created by layers of time. Isn’t it that humans respond to ‘depth of time’ by instinct? Based on this assumption, I conducted experiments on forms, from which I found many possibilities for my work. I still make attempts in many ways in search of new properties of clay.
